Cambodia Gambling Halls

[ English ]

There is an appealing background to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den betting is illegal. Eight casinos are based in a generally small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect spot, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; however, investment sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 17:00, and though visas are supposedly required to cross, there are methods around this, as is correct of most borders.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat gambling den, contains 150 slots and sixty tables. The Naga gambling hall is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of 150 slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational vacation and hotel building that features many comforts in addition to the gambling hall, which offers ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 tables.
